Hem brings the re-edition of the Experiment Chair in collaboration with Yrjo Kukkapuro and his daughter Isa Kukkapuro Enbom, preserving their original design. Yrjo Kukkapuro is an award winner and one of Finland’s finest modern interior designers and architects. His creations are a testimony of his dignified approach toward ergonomics, ecological values and the properties of the material used for designing.

Yrjo’s Experiment Chair first attained fame when it was released in the 1980s. But gradually its production ceased due to multiple factors. Now after three decades, both the designer and his daughter decided to reinterpret their prized design as this chair played a significant role in making him successful during the 80s era. To orchestrate the comeback they decided to collaborate with Hem, a famous furniture brand.

The stature of the Experiment Chair is formed from a chrome-plated frame that supports the upholstered backrest and a seat. This chair’s design bears an exact resemblance to the original one, except for its size. Hem has considered the modern requirements and built it a bit taller and wider than before with the approval of a designer.

The re-edition of the iconic furniture piece is available in red, blue, or green color, symbolizing the five elements. The red color represents fire, green denotes trees, and blue is for the lake waves. This shows the designer’s commitment to ecological values. As a modern edition, the chair is also available in black shade which was added by the Hem. Just for the record, the earlier designs were only available in the aforementioned colors i.e. red, green and blue.

The change in its dimension doesn’t bring any major transformation to its design. As Yrjo’s design Karuselli (Carousel) chair became a permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Similarly, this re-edition will be previewed at this year’s three-day design festival in Copenhagen, starting from 16th October 2024. The Experiment Chair, however, will be available on Hem’s website for $1,899.
