Yale is one of the first companies to launch Matter-enabled smart door locks. Its Assure Lock SL model, which was launched in 2023, uses a separate module to offer a unified smart home experience. The company is now introducing the Yale Smart Lock with built-in Matter connectivity. Building on the success of their Nest x Yale Lock that combines Yale’s trusted security solutions with Google’s smart home capabilities, the new smart lock is designed to connect directly with the Google Home app as well as complement the Nest Doorbell.
Google Home smart home platform users can enjoy several smart lock features through the app. It can be used to manage the smart lock from anywhere or you can control it with voice commands. You can grant access to people with easy-to-create passcodes and get notifications for lock and unlock activity. The Nest x Yale Lock offers a location-based auto-locking feature, but it can’t be said if it will be available in the new model. However, it comes with multiple unlocking options including entry code, app, or traditional key.
With built-in Matter over Thread technology, the new Yale Smart Lock seamlessly connects with Google Home and offers a number of convenience features as stated above. It can even be paired with Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings as well as other Matter-enabled platforms but what features will be available is not certain at the time of writing.

The Verge notes that the smart lock has built-in Matter-over-Thread connectivity but it does not have built-in Wi-Fi. You have to separately purchase a Yale Connect Wi-Fi Bridge for wireless connectivity. The company claims, its battery can work for up to 12 months and it may be because of the low-energy needs of Matter.
The new Yale Smart Lock with Matter is slated to launch later this summer. With this new product release, Yale and Google have decided to discontinue production of the Nest x Yale Lock, originally introduced in 2018.
