It’s probably better to build your own tiny home than to rely on a manufacturer to design one for you. For building a tiny house you don’t need to start from scratch as there are many retailers in the market who offer tiny house kits to make it easier for you to customize your dream home. Jamaica Cottage Shop is one such online retailer that provides affordable cabin plans, kits, and sheds. One of their plans that had me intrigued is the Writer’s Haven tiny house kit.
As per the company, the Writer’s Haven tiny house kits come in three different sizes and six different finish levels. We’d however be taking the 12×14 feet model into consideration today. Boasting an adorable and inspiring design, Writer’s Haven can be used as an all-season tiny house. It can also be used as a cabin, cottage, studio, detached office, backyard retreat, and much more. So, if you are looking to add an ADU to your existing home, this is your best bet.
Dubbed the Writer’s Haven, it is pretty obvious that it offers solace to people who have a knack for creative writing, editing, and other such skills. But if you are looking for peace, tranquility, and some privacy, this functions as an ideal home, too. The tiny house design comes standard with a front porch, daybed, and built-in desk, and proves to be the ultimate artistic sanctuary.

Once assembled, the tiny house boasts a high-quality Vermont lumber exterior that packs a built-in daybed and wooden dowel rack. The best part, however, is the translucent roof panel and a number of windows that allows plenty of natural light to flood inside. Being light-filled, the space becomes ideal for reading, writing, painting, and other creative works as aforementioned.
“This versatile small wood cabin could be the perfect backyard getaway or storage shed,” states Jamaica Cottage Shop. It further mentions, “Pre Cut Kits are carefully designed and packaged for building success & efficiency even for beginners. A color-coded guidebook with step-by-step instructions & an 800 technical support number are included to ensure DIY building success. All you will need is basic hand tools, a prepped site & the desire to create and build.”

On a little downside, there is no mention of a bathroom/toilet which I personally feel should be incorporated inside every modern dwelling. Other than that, everything is pre-cut and numbered, so one need not hassle much and start building their dream home.
