In 2024, monitoring health vitals at home is going to take a new turn with the BeamO from Withings. Since the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic, few things have shifted in the home healthcare dynamics. Withings with its innovation year-on-year, has tried to stay ahead of the curve and present more effective alternatives to keep track of individual health and to allow the data to be shared with healthcare providers.
The French consumer electronics company has a few medical-grade equipment – including infrared thermometers and wearables – under its belt for fragmented home health monitoring. Now, it is aiming at monitoring full health of a patient with one single device. The BeamO – referred to as a multiscope – combines functions of four different medical equipment to make your health tracking a priority.
This device, priced at $250, can measure body temperature, take an ECG, read the blood oxygen levels (SpO2), and also function as a statoscope to monitor lung and heart health. So, with four features in one device, the Withings BeamO multiscope can be used at home for regular health monitoring; for checking patient’s vitals during teleconference health calls; or in the patient’s waiting area outside a doctor’s room.
According to Withings, the BeamO is “smaller than a smartphone,” yet lets one monitor four health metrics seamlessly. Styled as, and made to function as, a digital thermometer, the multiscope also works as an electrocardiogram, oximeter, and stethoscope, giving individuals an idea of their health at home, in under a minute.
The person can then choose to share the vitals showing on the built-in BeamO display with the healthcare provider, using the Withings app, or keep the information for self-monitoring while undergoing treatment. Interestingly, the device features a USB-C to audio jack adapter to connect a pair of headphones. The audio can also be shared with the doctor over the app. The Withings BeamO is awaiting FDA clearance and is scheduled to appear at CES 2024. It should be available for retail in July.
