Vitra used to call its designers ‘authors’ (they still do), not because they believed in the power of words, but because their blueprint had the potential to revolutionize an entire school of thought when it comes to mid-century designs. Betting trust and showcasing faith in the credential of its designers, the Swiss company now stands as one of the behemoths in the furniture design world who are dedicated to improving the quality of homes and offices through the power of design.
The company recently relaunched the Fauteuil Kangourou Chair, one of its famous armchairs which was originally designed by Jean Prouvé. Contributions of the late designer to Vitra are unparalleled and his classic Fauteuil Kangourou armchair is one piece of furniture that has gained cult status over the years. The armchair was designed back in 1948, but 74 years later Vitra realized it was time for a makeover. And who was better suited for the auspicious work than the designer’s daughter Catherine Prouvé?
The new version of the chair was unveiled this past June when the company released a blue fabric colorway that was limited to just 150 editions and sold out pretty quickly. This is the second iteration of the re-launch and is limited to 100 pieces.
Just like its previous re-launched version, the second iteration of the Kangourou armchair comprises an oak wood base and steel front legs that are upholstered with a woven bouclé fabric, similar to the original design. The only change is the fabric color. Instead of the blue of the first iteration, it parades a lighter cream color to compliment the wood and match the aesthetics of the room.

Personally, I am not a fan of Vitra, but I love the fact that the Swiss company manages to get some of the finest designers onboard. Be it Jasper Morrison or the famed French designer Jean Prouvé, the company knows what’s best for business.
With Fauteuil Kangourou chair being relaunched, I am sure they have more plans in mind and who knows we might see some more updates in the future. For more information on the armchair and price-related queries, hop on to the official website of Vitra.
