The Swiss family-owned furniture company Vitra is celebrating 50th anniversary of the Danish designer Verner Panton’s iconic S-shaped plastic chair by launching its two all new limited editions named Panton Chrome and Panton Glow at IMM Cologne. Both are not just strikingly eye-catchy, they are also fully functional pieces of furniture. Vitra will also be exhibiting the Soft Modular Sofa designed by Jasper Morrison, Antonio Citterios’ luxurious Grand Sofà and a few accessories from its collection.
Panton Chrome
Verner Panton was fascinated by mirrored surfaces, and thus his passion is also visible in most of his works. The new Panton Chrome edition also features a mirrored surface, which was even projected by the designer in past. This dazzling mirrored effect is result of a metallization process, in which metal particles are embedded in multiple layers of varnish. With this unique coating system, it is able to cope with slight movements of the cantilever chair, while being sufficiently robust to effectively protect the sensitive surface.
The Panton Chrome will be available in March, 2018. So, you can keep a check at that time if you’re interested in this design.

Panton Glow
Inspired by Verner Panton’s legendary 1970 installation Visiona 2 – featuring walls and ceilings that glow, Vitra has developed the new Panton Glow chair in consultation with his wife Marianne Panton. This glowing chair uses raw polyurethane shell of the Panton Classic which is covered with five layers of a varnish containing phosphorescent pigments, and sealed with a high-gloss protective coating in the end. The luminous pigments absorb daylight and emit a blue, glow in the dark light during the dark hours. The Panton Glow will be available in June, 2018.
