In 2023 when our editor got a chance to interview Simon Anund, the founder of VERK, we were amazed by how clear goals the Swedish design house had about incorporating sustainability in design. Its approach was not just inked on paper, but imprinted in their minds. VERK has since released many interesting, sustainably envisioned pieces of furniture, but of particular interest is the V TB 01 modular furniture unit, showcased at the Stockholm Furniture Fair 2025.
Customizable furniture is an amalgamation of wooden stools that can be used standalone or in combination to allow a desirable seating arrangement in a public space. Developed in collaboration with designer Thomas Bernstrand, the modular design allows endless configurations and sizes. It is made entirely of materials sourced in Sweden and comprises stools usable in any orientation one desires.
The maiden work between the brand and the artist takes beautiful geometric shapes. It is not just limited to seating, it includes a planter and a waste bin and can be accessorized using cushions made from Swedish wool fabric or Tärnsjö leather. The inclusion of a planter within the seating unit adds a touch of green and pays back in a way for more sustainability, in a scenario where a cut piece of wood houses a living plant.

We think that Thomas Bernstrand has done an amazing job in bringing out the beauty of modular furniture ideal for use in public spaces like hospital waiting areas, office and hotel lobbies, or even in shopping malls. Of course, the bare wooden stools are comfortable, but the inclusion of cushions and leather could add to the convenience and striking appeal of the VERK V TB 01 furniture.
