In my younger years, I used to think that furniture designs, just like everything else around me, were bound by certain shapes, materials, and conformity. That there were particular norms and rules, outside of which creativity may not survive. Well, to my utmost relief, turns out those thoughts were stupid and creativity knows no bounds and there is no such thing as conventionality in design. Proving that point is the Triangle Side Table by the makers of handmade furniture in Rhode Island, USA, SouleWork.
The Triangle Side Table has a clever design, which eliminates clutter and allows the booklovers to show off their impressive literary collections in style. The ingenious shape of this side table breaks free from the traditional table shape. Whereas most side tables consist of a single block of material or feature four or three legs with a round, square, or rectangular tabletop, this piece of furniture – as the name suggests – comes in a triangular form, a geometric shape that has been rarely seen in interior design, especially in furniture.
According to SouleWorks founder, Matthew Soule, the side table was inspired by this toddler’s wooden toy blocks. He was intrigued by the absence and possibilities of the triangle in interiors. During the experimental and research phase, Soule realized that the shape could cleverly hold a book. Hence, the table was born.
Measuring 24” high x 26” wide x 20” deep, the Triangle Side Table weighs approximately 30 lbs and takes 4-8 weeks from placement of order to delivery. Priced at $2,300, this piece of furniture can be made in a variety of hardwood choices.

The angular end of the table can hold your current read without the need to stick bookmarks in. It also has a small ledge to place your coffee mug as you keep pushing for “just one more chapter” in your daily reading session. The side table even has a small, grooved indentation to keep your pen or pencil nearby, if you like to annotate your books.
Made using three pieces of wood, the triangular shape is hollow in the middle to keep your books nearby, display a plant of two, or even place a small pet bed. The beveled edges and a minimal base – which gives it an elevated feel – add a no-nonsense touch to the furniture piece, perfect for minimalists.
