One of the most versatile pieces of furniture is the chair. This one furniture article can make or break a room’s decor while offering a myriad of experimentation opportunities and unparalleled comfort in various designs. Family-owned Italian design studio Magis is adept at creating stunning chair designs to suit a variety of interiors. Take the newly unveiled Trave chair for instance. Designed by Alberto Brogliato and Federico Traverso for Magis, the chair is a graceful representation of solid wood.
Eager to subtract the components used in making a furniture piece, the designer duo employed a single bar of solid ash, which was then steam-bent to hold the whole frame in place. A large padded surface to the seat and low backseat are attached to the bar, which represents the multi-faceted nature of modern living.
The curved, solid wood piece is the center of the chair, to which the seat and the legs are attached. This ingenuine design not only minimizes the components used but also provides maximum comfort through large padded areas.
Highlighting the expertise and craftsmanship of the design team, the central curved beam is achieved over seven days. First, it was soaked in steam, resulting in the bent. Then, it was placed in a drying kiln. Thereafter, it was refined and constructed with the legs and cushions.
