It is a misconception that shipping container homes have an industrial appeal and make the living space feel constrained. Rebuffing the myths is the Tea House container home built by joining three shipping containers for a spacious T-shaped dwelling comprising two bedrooms. Constructed by Oregon-based Relevant Buildings, the Tea House 20 container home combines two 20-foot-long containers to form the communal areas of the abode, while a 40-foot-long container forms the bedrooms and a hallway bathroom.
763 square feet shipping container home enjoys the upper hand over its other tiny house counterparts. Although compact, its clever design and strategically placed windows make the house feel open and well-ventilated while filling it with natural light throughout the day.
The micro-dwelling has a somewhat industrial-looking exterior while the interior gives a cottagecore vibe with well-lit spaces and a warm wood aesthetic. The front door opens into the open floor space where the kitchen and living room create a harmonized communal area for six to eight people.
Big windows and a sliding glass back door keep the area bright and naturally ventilated, reducing the dependency on artificial lighting and heating-cooling systems during the day. The well-thought-out living space can accommodate a generous seating arrangement, including a daybed for additional sleeping space.
The kitchen is big and made for culinary masters. It features a regular home’s basic amenities and has a rollable island, making things smooth and more functional without cramping up the space. Adjacent is the dining space for four, which can be increased by using the kitchen island as a table.

A small hallway from there leads to the bedrooms at the opposite ends. A spa-style bathroom has been squeezed between the sleeping spaces and gives a regular bathroom a run for its money. There is also a stacked laundry space included in the hallway. The bedrooms are pretty standard with king-size beds flanked by nightstands. The rooms are big so there is a chance to add custom storage.
Given the size of the Tea House 20 container home, it can be used as a permanent dwelling for a small family, as a backyard living unit, or as a vacation rental. A fully furnished Tea House 20 will cost you $230,000.
