Switch2 is a functional chair designed by student designer Niklas Fiedler as part of his Bachelor’s thesis at the Muthesius Art Academy in Kiel, Germany. It is a unique chair designed to mediate between work and personal life. The chair allows users to change their sitting position and perspective in order to adapt to different situations.
The Switch2 chair offers an individual application possibility for both work and relaxation. It features a comparatively shorter seat and longer backrest that ensures an upright sitting position as well as a relaxed posture.
The chair can be adjusted to any position without prescribing a particular posture for the user’s work. With a simple movement, the seat and backrest can be “switched over” in a rolling semicircular movement.

From the first prototype to the final chair design, Niklas has optimized the adjustment mechanism and tested the construction method and ergonomics thoroughly. He has tried many possible variations to find the best suitable design. For his effort with the Switch2 chair, Niklas has been awarded by an online German magazine baunetz id.
