Challenging times often give birth to amazing ideas; this is what you will realize upon knowing the story behind the creation of the Stoolet portable toilet. Designed by Dajie from Japan, with collaborators like SOMa LLC, Jellop, and BackerSpaces, the Stoolet was initially created for use in disaster situations especially devastating earthquakes. The portable, lightweight, foldable, and washable Stoolet can be used in four different ways – a toilet, chair, step ladder, and garbage can.
After an earthquake in one of the regions of Japan, a team of passionate designers came up with the idea for the Stoolet portable toilet. It has unique design and multipurpose functionality that make it ideal for outdoor events like camping, fishing, and hiking. It is also a purposeful product for those who are troubled by frequent urination and feel tired of taking too many bathroom tours.
It was only after multiple designs and rigorous testing that Stoolet came into existence. The portable toilet achieves space efficiency and can be stored and carried around easily. It comes with a main unit, lid, storage bag, coagulant, and defecation bag.
When using it as an outdoor toilet, the makers give users an add-on foldable privacy tent that has been made using a steel frame and polyester which is available in colors like camouflage, orange, blue and green. The users can open the foldable stool, attach the bag for defecation, and place the toilet seat flaps from the sides. The coagulant can be sprinkled after use which helps keep the waste contained.
The fact that the Stoolet has a load capacity of 150 kg makes it ideal for use as a sturdy stool and a stable step ladder. It can even be used as a storage container. In this way, this product is suited for both indoor and outdoor use.

You need not worry about hygiene or dirt as the Stoolet portable toilet is washable. If you are concerned about hygiene or in case more than one person is going to use the toilet, a surface disinfectant can be used.
The Stoolet has been made using polypropylene resin and comes in colors like grey, black, and army green. It comes in two sizes – medium and small. It has been successfully funded on Kickstarter and even got crowdfunded in Japan by over 3,200 people who majorly pledged it for donation in disaster areas and shelters. An innovated product like this deserves appreciation.
