The story of Star Streak II Motorhome started with Lt. Col. Paul Jones, who retired from the Air Force in the 1980s. His dream of traveling led him to find the best RV’s out there, but nothing could satisfy his fancy. At last, he decided to build his recreational vehicle, thus came into existence the Star Streak II Motorhome, which he built out of a luxurious Cadillac Eldorado.
Before Star Streak II, its predecessor Star Streak out of Oldsmobile Toronado created quite the buzz. He put all his aeronautical knowledge and expertise and turned this vehicle into a living solution, incorporating it with the basic equipment of a motorhome such as a kitchen, a sink, a TV, a skylight, and fancy trims from Cadillacs.
In 1989, the small yet ostentatious Star Streak II succeeded Star Streak. Measuring 22 feet long and 6 feet high, it’s quite impressive, even more than the first one. The dwelling features a custom aluminum exterior, custom windows, and a striking yellow color. All the conspicuous details that Jones integrated remain the talk of the town.
Jones took the elements of the first motorhome and added them to this rig. From exterior to interior, we can find little similarities but certain differences as well, especially in the exterior and dashboard. Star Streak II features an upgraded and better-quality dash. It is also a bit longer, wider, and more refined version of its predecessor. Meanwhile, the dashboard and the exterior of the former one had an old-world charm. Contrary to the differences, one of the striking similarities that you must have figured out is the fixed roof that Jones constructed to be able to fit the RVs in a garage. Another noticeable similarity is that you can’t fully stand in either of the motorhomes.

However, you can look beyond the size when you are getting the luxuries of a quintessential motorhome. Inside, the Star Streak II is rigged with amenities such as a galley-style kitchen with a Formica countertop, a double-basin sink, a stove, and ample drawers for storage. There is also a refrigerator and a cooktop for basic cooking.
To underline the versatility, there is a dinette next to the kitchen that transforms into a bed. This automobile is insulated with polystyrene foam and bullet-resistant glass for its insulation and scratch-resistant properties. Jones and his family donated the Star Streak II Motorhome to the RV/MH Hall of Fame, while the original Star Streak is placed in the California Automobile Museum. Overall, it is the vision of the Lt. Col. Paul Jones that led to these amazing motorhomes. Indeed a living proof of his ingenuity!
