Furniture depicting curved lines and shapes has been a popular trend in home décor. Earlier this year, we saw several brands release curved furniture and accessories. These include the Windsor chair and glass coffee tables by pulpo. Now with a fresh look at the idea, CAM Design Studio has arrived with the Squiggle Furniture Collection – designed by Christopher Miano – that tries to create furniture with curved, whimsical design elements.
The Squiggle collection comprises a chair, table, mirror, and lighting fixtures, all featuring serpentine forms crafted out of solid slabbed lumber.
The Squiggle chair has one curved leg that is extended to be a part of the backrest. The seat is upholstered with a natural boucle fabric to ensure comfort. Similarly, the Squiggle table has curved elements on the apron. The wooden chandelier also sports a unique squiggly form while the mirror has curved wooden frame.
The designer told DesignMilk in an interview that the construction starts with crucial material selection and then wood pieces are joined together with the help of Domino joints and glue. “Once happy with the final form each piece is sanded up to 400 grit and coated with Osmo Poly-x, allowing 24 hours to dry. The next day the first coat of finish is knocked back with 800-1000 grit sandpaper and finished with a final coat of Osmo Poly-x.”
