Form, futurism and pallet of colors, if these three words remind me of someone, it is Karim Rashid. He is one of the most prolific artists of all times known for his colorful furniture designs. Recently, the celebrated designer collaborated with A.A.T.C. to launch a new collection which was also featured at Salone del Mobile 2022.
It is Karim’s second collaboration with the Italian brand. Dubbed Zag, the collection comprises a coffee table, bench, floor tiles, and small marble decorations. The biggest highlight of the collection for me was the Skim coffee table that reminded me of Iron coffee table by Maurício Coelho we covered months back. This stunning coffee table is no short of geometric brilliance and holds a little resemblance in shape to the Coelho’s coffee table.
Nevertheless, Coelho design featured a central sphere encompassed by two metal sheets that further held the tabletop but in the case of Skim coffee table, it’s just marble and glass that combine together to deliver a mouthwatering piece of furniture I’d also like to own someday.
Boasting a beautiful balance of geometries, the table design is pretty neat and has a two-layer tabletop. A hemispherical marble base holds the rectangular yet curvy marble top. There is a glass top cleverly incorporated within the marble top to complete the design. Overall, the tabletop is main feature that one would capture the attention.
