I completely agree with the philosophy of seating being the new smoking, but also second the fact that standing for extended periods can be really uncomfortable. Whether you’re on the metro, camping high up the mountain, or just walking through a busy area, there’s a good chance you won’t always find a seat to relax. To avoid any awkward confrontations with fellow passengers/campers, it’s a smart move to invest in portable furniture for convenience. Sitpack is one company that’s leading the way with portable seating solutions, offering a range of chairs and stools that you can take with you wherever you go.
Originally launched in 2014 by the Danish startup Sitpack, the original Sitpack revolutionized portable seating with its telescoping monopod design. As reported by New Atlas, the original stool folded out into a ‘T-shape’, thus becoming popular worldwide for its compact form and practicality. A few years later, the company introduced the Zen, a lighter, more ergonomic version with a hammock-style seat suspended between two aluminum arms shaped like a ‘Y’.
Building on the success of the past two models, the company has now introduced Sitpack Zen X (2) (an upgraded version of Sitpack Zin X), a portable stool that folds up to the size of an umbrella. Akin to its predecessors, the stool’s latest version is ultra-portable and can be carried easily inside a backpack or on the shoulder. The users can simply extend the telescoping leg to the desired height and unfold the wings to form a stable seat.
Unlike the older versions, where the seat was pretty much just a length of nylon webbing, the latest model features a flexible recycled HDPE platform that provides better support, paired with a quilted memory foam cushion for added comfort. It also has improved seating with a locking mechanism that has been upgraded to a more durable thermoplastic material, preventing slipping when the seat is in use. Not to mention, the leg’s rubber foot has also been reinforced with an aluminum core, adding extra stability.

When not in use, the entire setup can be conveniently stored in a zippered pocket beneath the seat, and a new ‘button design’ makes removing the seat from the wings easier than ever. For those interested in this upgraded design, the Sitpack Zen is available for preorder on Indiegogo. A pledge of $69 will secure a model with an anodized aluminum leg, while a $97 pledge will get you the carbon fiber version. In case you are interested in seeking the old version, they are available on the company’s official website.
