Advancements in technology are transforming healthcare at home, and the time has come when your toilet can test your urine. China-based Shanmu Biotechnology successfully made one miniature at-home healthcare device for it, and it won an Innovation Award in the Digital Health category at CES 2025.
The company touts it as the world’s first fully automatic, non-invasive real-time urine analysis health management robot, designed for families and individuals. The size of a palm, you simply need to place it on the inside wall of the toilet bowl, and it does the job whenever someone uses the bathroom. The toilet sensor comes with an IPX7 waterproof design to withstand the environment for a long time and a medical-grade anti-fouling coating to keep the interior of the device clean.
This home medical robot has a built-in multi-spectral sensor chip that in combination with AI algorithms analyzes and processes the spectral data of substance concentrations in urine. The S1’s battery lasts two months and can also be plugged into a power source to recharge.
No hassle at all – it works on its own and tracks more than ten urine indicators. It can help you keep an eye on urine sugar, creatinine, protein, ketone bodies, pH value, urine-specific gravity nitrite, white blood cells, and urine occult blood. You can use the companion mobile app to check all the urine analysis and food suggestions it can offer.

Shanmu S1 can help track your and your family’s health metrics every day. It can be highly useful for those with chronic illness as it can help them with early disease detection. The device even provides prescription and dietary guidance so that the users can monitor and manage their conditions on their own.
