We are still a month away from the 60th edition of Salone del Mobile and brands have already started teasing their latest designs. The biggest update so far comes in the lighting department, where the iconic Tolomeo lamp designed by Michele De Lucchi and Giancarlo Fassina for Artemide in 1987 is getting a makeover.
The talking point about the lamp is not just its aesthetic design but also the new functional element Artemide has added to the lamp. The top illumination brand in the world has incorporated a patented ‘INTEGRALIS’ technology into the lighting fixture. Artemide claims that the latest technology can make spaces safer. So what is it? And how does it actually work? Let’s read further.
Basically, the light coming out of the lamp acts as a laser and helps neutralize pathogenic microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, and mold present on the illuminated surface. It inhibits their growth and even eliminates them, thus providing a clean working surface to the user. It not only battles bacteria with its light but also provides an ample amount of brightness required to cater to our needs for a brighter working surface.
Artemide also mentions that only certain wavelengths of visible light possess the right energy to fight the growth of pathogens. The violet-blue range is supposedly the one to inhibit bacteria but the technology won’t prove detrimental to people, pets, or plants and does not damage furniture or other objects. In a nutshell, the latest iteration of the Tolomeo lamp combines sanitizing ability, light performance, and beautiful design.

The base structure of the lamp features a lamp arm and a diffuser polished in aluminum. Both the diffuser and the arm can be moved in any suitable direction. The pricing and availability details are yet to be made official and we might have to wait until the June edition of Salone del Mobile for the same, where the Tolomeo Lamp will debut.
