Responding to LG’s new Instaview AI-powered fridges, Samsung Electronics has announced the latest edition of its Family Hub refrigerator that will be on display at CES 2020. Powered by AI cameras, the refrigerator can recognize different things and offer thoughtful meal plan and recipe suggestions according to the available ingredients in it.
The new 2020 Family Hub refrigerator with AI-powered ViewInside cameras automatically scans the products inside the fridge, identifies them, and updates the inventory accordingly for future use. It can recommend smart recipes based on preset dietary preferences and helps make a weeklong meal plan based on the refrigerator inventory. It can also help you prepare a shopping list with ingredients available in the fridge so you are always be stocked up.
The meal planning feature is further enhanced with food AI startup Whisk’s innovative technology that can help users plan a meal by suggesting recipes based on the number of people expected for the meal. This feature will make users able to plan a meal for a day or a week easily.
Family Hub fridge’s digital bulletin board is also improved, it now supports video clips. Users can directly transfer videos from their smartphone to the refrigerator. The updated SmartView feature allows mirroring content from connected Samsung TVs and Samsung mobile devices in portrait or landscape orientation. Users will also be able to play their favorite music from various streaming apps.

The smart home functionality is also improved – users can monitor and control over 1,000 SmartThings-compatible products with the fridge. Furthermore, the new SmartThings Video widget allows viewing multiple security cameras at-a-glance.
Considering all the new features, the 2020 Family Hub fridge will not come cheap. You will have to fork out upwards of $3,500 when compared to the price of its earlier version.
