We have seen minimalism used as a style statement for modernistic home furniture. The new collection from Irish interior designer David Collins and Italian brand Promemoria takes minimalism to a whole new level of diminution. This collection comprising of lamps, tables and chair exhibit the radical end of the ‘bare essentials’ character. This condensed essence is also fused with some deft structural attributes, thus making the furniture line utterly elegant in its conception. The pared-off collection was showcased at Salone del Mobile 2013, held in Milan.
According to the designer, the inspiration of the collection comes from the juxtaposition of geometry and symmetry. This logical fusion does translate itself into some innovative forms which replace the conventional structures we are used to seeing.
For example, in the chair seen above, we can clearly see the backrest extending downwards to double up as the rear support for the seat.
In another example, the thin profile of the table has a central clasp of bronze that poses as a subtle (yet posh) element defining the balance of the design.
