The world of cocktails is diverse. From deadly venom slushies to a Buckaroo, different types of mixed drink recipes and cocktails are now out there, but you might not be familiar with Aragog, an unusual cocktail named after the giant spider from the harry Potter fictions. Renowned mixologist Romeo Palomares has created it two years ago, and till date he has already surprised hundreds of customers with drinks made from tarantula venom or lard. If you like to make your tongue numb, tickle your lips and causes a sensation “between tingling and cramping” in the throat, then you may give a try to this unique venom cocktail.
Romeo said;
It’s something unique in the cocktails, but it’s only for brave people, not only because of the poison but also because of his mixture of two spirits and a mezcal.
After getting a challenge from his boss to come up with a different cocktail that can impress customers, he started looking out for a special ingredient in the famous witchcraft market of Sonora. While roaming in the region along with one of his friend, a local female vendor has suggested him to use tarantula venom to add an extra boost to cocktails. He experimented the venom on himself first and finally came on to use it in an appropriate ratio that can minimize the risks.
In the end, he created a new cocktail recipe by mixing Mexican mezcal, Chilean pisco and Brazilian cachaça, combined with mango potage, a touch of lemon and a dose of 0.05% of tarantula poison for every half liter of the drink.
