For a home gardener or farmer, irrigation systems are one of the most important parts of the process. But with the guesswork involved in watering requirements, things go sideways: You end up wasting water by overwatering or leave your plants thirsty by under-watering. While there has been significant improvement in the area, outdoor irrigation systems still lack the necessary tech to prevent water wastage. Adapting its vertical farming technologies to address this challenge, Hong Kong-based agriculture technology startup Full Nature Farms unveiled the Rocket 2.0 smart irrigation system at CES 2025.
Unlike traditional farming methods that rely on manual soil data collection to decide when to water, Rocket 2.0 provides real-time soil data every 3 seconds. This data enables AI-powered decision-making for precise, automated irrigation reducing water waste and ensuring crop yields.
What is interesting about this standalone innovative irrigation system is that it leverages crop, soil, and climate sensors to create necessary soil data. The data is then paired with AI and weather forecasts to create dynamic daily irrigation schedules. This entire process takes away the guesswork, leaving your plants efficiently watered and helping curb wastage.
Rocket 2.0 has a professional-grade Weather Station, which offers precise real-time climate reading to help make informed decisions. The device runs on advanced solar panels, resisting wind and opting out of wiring costs. The self-sustaining design allows for easy remote positioning.
Ray Lok, CEO and Founder of Full Nature Farms told TechCrunch, “We offer farmers the opportunity to use our product through a subscription fee ranging from 10 to 20 USD per month per sensor, with no upfront costs. This eliminates barriers to entry and allows us to provide a scalable and affordable smart irrigation solution for both farmers and operators.”
At such a price, the tech has brilliant potential for scaling production. The new platform shows huge promise in optimizing water usage in commercial farming, from landscaping and parks to community farms and vineyards. Rocket 2.0 smart irrigation system also won the CES 2025 Innovation Award in the Sustainability & Energy/Power category.
