IKEA Singapore has reimagined IKEA’s iconic Frakta bag as the new Resten bag that doubles as an on-the-go pillow. Resten bag has the signature blue color and familiar utilitarian design of Frakta, which has been a staple in IKEA’s lineup for years thanks to its durable and versatile construct. This pillow is made with ultra-comfortable fabrics and stuffing and is portable to provide much-needed moments of rest on the go, especially to Singapore’s sleep-deprived citizens.
The Resten bag functions as a pillow and a carry-all bag. You simply unzip the bag, fold it out to switch to pillow mode, and enjoy a quick nap regardless of the location. Once its purpose is done, it can be folded back to its original shape and you can carry things in it. Thanks to its portability, you can have a home-like sleep experience anytime, anywhere whether you are in a park, on a train, or at work.
IKEA Singapore marketing manager Caroline Ng told Fast Company, “We know sleep is important, and rest is a vital yet often overlooked part of Singaporean lives… [The Resten] reminds us of our busy lifestyles, the importance of finding opportunities for rest, and that Singaporeans can simply leave the rest to us.”
The fluffy blue bag comes with ’leave the rest to IKEA‘ written on the strap, depicting IKEA’s concern in resolving the issue of sleep deprivation in Singapore. Singapore is one of the most sleep-deprived countries in the world with 54% of Singaporeans getting six hours of sleep or less a night.

Singapore-based creative studio The Secret Little Agency worked with IKEA to conceptualize this bag-pillow hybrid. Its Chief Creative Officers Nicholas Ye and Mavis Neo told designboom, “With the entire country running on overtime, rest is often sought in unconventional places, and we saw the opportunity to bring comfort to the busy lives of Singaporeans by creating the world’s most ‘rest-able’ bag for one of the world’s most rest-less countries.”
IKEA is also planning to conduct a Rest-fest from September 6 to September 8, where these products will be available. This fest will feature a range of in-store activities, exclusive offers, and even a specially curated food menu to help visitors get entertained.
