The world is full of real-life examples where one person’s waste becomes another’s treasure. You may remember Estonian artist Villu Jaanisoo, who crafted sculptural chairs from discarded tires, or Atelier SOHN’s furniture made from wooden fish boxes. Both are inspiring examples of sustainable design. US-based startup RENEW by TRINITY is following the trend and is turning waste chopsticks into sustainable material that can be used to make kitchenware, furniture, and other household goods.
Chopsticks-turned-furniture does not seem like a real thing, but it has become a reality. The company creates everything from coffee tables to benches and shelves from it, and the multipurpose RENEW Hide and Seek Dog Crate and End Table is a fantastic example that will instantly grab your attention. You will be surprised to see how creatively discarded chopsticks have been utilized in the design.
This furniture piece serves dual purposes – it is an side table and also a dog crate for small dogs. The combination of bamboo and espresso-brown pinewood creates a beautiful contrast. There is wire mesh on two sides that lets in light and air. The front two-sided gate can also be locked to keep the pet secure and safe. The dog crate is bottomless and features a removable plastic tray for easy clean-up. Furthermore, there is a drawer to keep dog treats and toys.
