Dex Workspaces, a renowned and specialized outlet of Vivendo Group, has collaborated with European Architecture Students Assembly (EASA) Malta to organize Re-Chair Competition on 4th August, giving an opportunity to 30 architecture students to build the famous Vitra designed chairs. The twist is it is done using recycled waste material provided by the WasteServe Malta.
About 500 architecture students and young professionals from Europe as well as other countries came together to participate in the two-week event by EASA. Vitra Re-Chair is one of the activities in that two-weeks event held by EASA and Dex Workspaces.
The Re-Chair competition started at 9:00 AM and after briefing the participants for 30 minutes, the individuals or groups were given three hours of time to build recycled Vitra chairs using waste materials, basic tools and an adhesive provided to them. Judges included representatives from both Dex Workspace and EASA have finalized the product on the basis of criteria like creativity, efficient use of material, stability and overall look.
The winner of the Re-Chair competition is none other than the recycled version of Eames Rocking Chair, which is created by Kieren O’Donnel (Ireland), Idil Okyar (France), Wendy Tokuoka (Switzerland) and Nikolai Petrov (Bulgaria). The winner of the competition also received an exclusive iconic set of Vitra miniatures and Vitra Design Book.
This competition was held to push and test the limits of architecture students and young professionals while recreating their favorite Vitra designer chair using only recyclable material. This not only proved potential and creativity of the product but also represented its resourcefulness.
