We often underestimate what a pillow brings to our bed. It not only provides support to the neck and upper back during sleep but also becomes our best friend when we are down and neglected by the world. There’d hardly be anyone who has not hugged a pillow for some comfort in absence of loved ones. But did you know that a pillow can help you get rid of your snoring?
As funny or silly as it may sound, snoring not just obstructs other people’s sleep but also increases the risk of a heart attack in some individuals. To make sure you get a snore-free good night’s sleep, the North-Korean healthcare company Pure-Lex has tied up with the US-based tech company Nvidia Corporation to add a software integration in a pillow that would significantly reduce snoring and sleep apnea. The pillow features multiple sensors that detect the location of a user’s head and the sound of snoring during sleep.
The sleep aid device works by inflating the air cell mounted on the pillow and detects snoring by monitoring the user’s breathing, movement, pulse, and other factors through its sensors. The inflating pillow encourages the user to switch to a side sleeping position to open up the airway, which helps stop snoring. The company calls this medical treatment “sleep position therapy.”
The pillow further features Nvidia’s AI software, based on deep learning of respiratory data of patients with snoring and sleep apnea disorder. The Korean company says, “The software senses the snoring of an individual alongside sleep/sleep apnea cycles and makes subtle motions to move the individual’s head to the side by inflating one side of the pillow when they snore or stop breathing.” The product comes with a companion application that tracks sleeping patterns and shows accurate results.
It sounds a bit dubious but considering the history of tech advancement in East Asia, I’d say it could work. If hugging a pillow can control anxiety, it very well can reduce snoring as well. The company further touts that using the pillow will improve the quality of sleep and help open up the respiratory tract of the user quickly.

Pure-Lex mentions giving reference to a clinical test on their website, “The sleep analysis devices helped reduce 71 percent of snoring intensity and sound while over 50 percent of sleep apnea frequency.” The origin of the product was a research project led by Korea University’s Sejong Campus students. The company is currently awaiting medical clearance and certification from authorities, after which it will be available for purchase for $242.
