Primus known for its reliable outdoor camping stoves, continues to attract more people with its innovative offerings. The company has recently launched its new Ulti camping stove, which works in extreme weather conditions: it stays stable and is efficient in strong winds.
For most campers, wind has been a challenge when cooking outdoors. The high winds not only disturb the process, but lower fuel efficiency by deflecting the flame. Ulti does not involve the usual blue flame but rather uses infrared radiation, making it different from other gas stoves in the market.
In contrast to a standard burner where the flame burns on the surface, Ulti is equipped with a catalytic infrared burner that burns fuel and air inside the burner in the presence of a catalyst material. It is a special metal alloy applied to a porous metal foam that allows for complete combustion, even in the strongest wind. The catalyst also reduces the energy needed for heating.
This camping stove featuring a combination of catalytic combustion and infrared radiation can produce a 10,000 BTU (3000W) heat source. While it comes with foldable legs, there is a concerning factor whether the bottom will heat up which in the end may force you to cook outside. It would be a great addition if it lets you cook inside without burning the surface.
Ulti camping system includes a burner and pot that nest tightly together into a rattle-free pack that fits into any camping setup. It comes with legs that fold under and into the burner base to lock in the hose and valve into a compact unit. The whole pack weighs about 700 gm, which would not be burdensome for you in the backpack.
Whether you are backpacking or looking to cook food at high altitudes, the Ulti camping stove can be a great solution for you. You can choose from three different pot sizes: 1L, 1.8L, 2.7L. The price for 1L pot starts at 3 599 kr (approx. $330).
