Did you know that every 26 seconds, there is a break-in in the US? Shocking and scary, but that is what 2024 FBI crime statistics say. A break-in is a violation of security and privacy that we all fear whether we are living in our own home or staying at a hotel. Despite security measures in place, the main entry point is the door in most cases. Thankfully, some people with a knack for invention understand these fears, bringing us solutions that detect and send early warnings in case of a break-in attempt.
Such a security device is designed by a veteran-owned and operated company STIFF/ARM, which came into being after studying FBI home invasion data and security apprehensions of travelers in rentals. The company has designed STIFF/ARM doorstop, a portable, state-of-the-art device that works with any door and offers you peace of mind by detecting, deterring, and preventing intruders from violating the sanctity of your space.
Compatible with a robust mobile app, the STIFF/ARM doorstop adds resistance to the closed door and sends early warnings by detecting movement. The compact device is removable and portable, making it easier to carry to work or on vacation so you feel safe no matter where you are. It is effortless to install and remove from any door without leaving scratches or holes.
The STIFF/ARM doorstop has a linear actuator. Once the device is attached to the door, the mobile app activates the actuator to extend and push against the floor. In case of a forced entry, the device holds steadfast, denying access. Moreover, its force sensor sounds an audible alarm upon detecting kicks or rams against the door before it is breached.

When you unlock the door, the actuator retracts away from the floor, allowing you entry. Interestingly, the STIFF/ARM App uses short-range wireless signals to remotely access the device from either side of the door. This feature makes it easier to use whether you are inside the room/house or out.
The portable security device comes with a 12V battery and charger. Crowdfunding on Kickstarter, the STIFF/ARM doorstop is currently in its prototype stage. Interested parties can back the project for $250 and help it reach initial production. Should this device reach production, it will be a godsend to homeowners worried about break-ins, or travelers fearing their security inside temporary lodgings, especially women.
