Spray Foam-Insulated Penelope Tiny House is Spacious With One Bedroom and an Upstairs Storage Loft

Measuring 32 feet long and 8.6 feet wide, the Penelope tiny house based on the Athena Model is a cozy and functional dwelling poised on a triple-axle trailer. Designed by Decathlon Tiny Homes, the mobile habitat sleeps four people in its capacious interior that constitutes a kitchen, living room, bedroom, loft, and bathroom. We’ll take up all these aspects one by one but first, let’s discuss the exterior of the dwelling.

To do so, in a better way, we touch base with Jerry Terry, CEO of Decathlon Tiny Homes, who tells us what went into making the Penelope tiny house. “We frame our tiny house just like a residential home. We use something called zip sheets on the outside that functions like a moisture barrier under the siding. And then we have smart siding that goes on the outside. It’s kind of like a hard facing, but it’s a lot lighter because it’s a wood backing.”

Terry further adds, “When you go to the inside, it’s all spray foam insulation. We have closed cell spray foam in the trailer, open cell spray foam in the walls and the ceiling.” It is to be noted that the tiny home draws power from a standard RV-style hookup, and has metal roofing that adds durability to the structure.

Visitors enter into the kitchen, which is dominated by the countertop area. It incorporates a sink, cooktop, and faucet, and also has cabinets and shelves for extra storage. The kitchen comes loaded with a range of appliances that add functionality to the home. Some of the notable appliances are the fridge, cooktop, and microwave.  

The bathroom is adjacent to the kitchen and has a shower, vanity, and toilet. Not to mention, a washer and dryer that offers thorough and efficient cleaning. On the extreme opposite of the bathroom is a main-floor bedroom. Accessed via a sliding barn door, the bedroom sleeps two in its storage-friendly bed and hosts a range of clothing and other accessories in the closet.

The tiny house also features a storage loft that is located above the bathroom. Accessed via a removable ladder, the loft is ideally used for housing items but can sleep two people if required.

Right in the center is the living room of the Penelope tiny house. It features a sofa, a table, and a couple of chairs. Immensely spacious, the living room also offers plenty of walking space to either end of the house. We have no word on the price of this one, though Decathlon lists its prices for the Athena Model at $79,500.
