Every kitchen needs a ventilation hood to extract fumes, aromas and odors, and keep it free of oily fumes. But the thing with most range hoods is that they are noisy and gaudy, have installment hassle, and do not fit all kitchens, especially in tiny apartments and mobile homes. But what if you can have a portable range hood that fits over a pot, prevents your cooktop and counter from being splashed over with oil and bubbling gravy, and is dishwasher-friendly? Sounds too good to be true, right? Meet the Oilvent, a mini range hood (the smallest you will ever see) that takes care of the abovementioned problems.

Dubbed as the world’s first pot lid range hood, the Oilvent is designed by a group of passionate culinary enthusiasts who wanted to create a healthier cooking environment in every home. Taking the design of a pot lid as its inspiration, the inventive range hood is portable and is suitable for every household, even tiny houses and other living solutions without a proper ventilation hood.

The Oilvent aims to provide seamless cooking convenience and safety in an installment-free, dishwasher-safe, portable package. The mini ventilation device can extract over 90 percent of oil fumes efficiently with its centrifugal tech to keep your kitchen fresh and healthy. When compared to traditional ventilation hoods that typically remove grease at an efficiency rate of 75 percent, the Oilvent does a great job. So no more cough fits from inhaling oily particles while cooking.

This feat is achieved through a steel mesh and activated carbon sponges that eliminate airborne particles and organic pollutants to enhance indoor air quality. The high-density mesh makes it the ultimate splash screen, so you need to worry about oil or gravy splashes as you let the pot simmer. The screen measures 38 cm (14.9 inches), which means it can fit a wide range of pots and pans. Not only that, it can serve as a fly screen, help you drain water from boiled noodles or pasta, and be a serving platter.

Did we mention that it is dishwasher-safe? That is right; you can disassemble the handle, stainless steel mesh, and impeller and put them into the dishwasher for thorough cleaning so you don’t have to strain your elbows cleaning it like the traditional appliance.

The mini range hood uses 18650 batteries, which are known for their long lifespan. The Oilvent has a charging dock so you can remove the batteries and charge them within 10-20 minutes.

But the highlight has to be its portable and lightweight design, which avoids the expense and hassle of traditional range hood installation. The portable hood weighs only 920g (33.5 lbs), making it highly user-friendly, even for elderly users. It is also a low-noise device with 42 decibels (a quiet library is at 30 decibels).

To make it operational, you need to put the batteries in and attach the handle to the lid. And that is pretty much it. Now you can use the Oilevnt with any pot or pan in any space. Launched today on Kickstarter for crowd-funding, the Oilvent pot lid range hood has already crossed its pledged goal. You can get it at an early bird price of $75.
