Spring hasn’t even arrived, yet 2025 is shaping up to be a huge year for grilling enthusiasts. Weber was the first to announce its 2025 lineup of grills. It was followed by Traeger, Masterbuilt, and Kamado Joe announcing their respective smokers, griddles, and budget-friendly pellet grills. A new entrant taking the grilling market by storm is Ninja, aka SharkNinja. The company is venturing into the world of outdoor cooking with the Ninja FlexFlame – a grill that has all the potential of becoming the multi-tasking powerhouse you’ve been seeking for years.
Ninja may not have decades of grilling experience like that of brands such as Weber; it is certainly bringing something fresh to the table with the FlexFlame propane grill. It has a shiny chrome hood and convenient side shelves akin to other high-end grills, but there’s a lot more going on under the hood than meets the eye.
According to Ninja, “the all-in-one appliance allows you to cook in 5 unique ways with zero compromises-grill, smoke, roast, griddle, and make perfect pizzas all in one outdoor system.” While you may assume that Ninja is smoking some marketing fluff here, but Tom’s Guide Managing Editor Kate Kozuch who has had a first-hand look at the FlexFlame confirms that the ambitious claim isn’t just marketing fluff; and that it does offer a versatile cooking experience with the convenience of gas and flavor of charcoal.
The FlexFlame features a pellet smoking system similar to what we’ve seen in Ninja’s WoodFire electric grill. This allows you to infuse meat with the smoky flavor, providing an experience that rivals charcoal grills but without the hassle of charcoal. If you enjoy classic grilling, smoking, roasting, griddling, or even pizza-making, this grill does it all for you.
Another standout feature of the Ninja FlexFlame is its ‘Cyclonic air’ technology. This uses a high-velocity convection fan to circulate heat throughout the grill cavity, creating an even cooking environment. The result is faster, more efficient cooking, with the crispiness and even heat distribution that’s hard to beat. The FlexFlame is equipped with a digital control panel that allows you to set your preferred cooking method and temperature. The system then automatically adjusts the gas flames to maintain your chosen setting, which can help conserve gas.
What’s intriguing is the fact that Ninja doesn’t refrain from taking shots at Weber on its product page. It claims, “FlexFlame uses up to 25% less propane than the Weber Genesis, making it an energy-efficient choice for the eco-conscious griller.” If this is a sign of things to come, we are in for a wild grilling season. Having said that, it will be interesting to see what Broilmaster and Napoleon have to offer in 2025.
