Under or overwatering a lawn can mar its essence over time. We understand this. Yet, we tend to water the yard as and when time allows, which often is not the right way forward. If your lawn care technique is shady, Moen smart irrigation kit is here to the rescue, offering an autonomous way to keep the lawn hydrated as and when it needs.
Moen is a regular at CES; after spoiling us with faucets that allow water temperature control with gestures, and introducing us to conscious showering with water-saving showerheads, Moen is returning to Las Vegas with Smart Sprinkler Controller that pairs with the company’s own Smart Wireless Soil Sensors to automatically schedule lawn watering based on the soil’s requirement.
By the context of things, we are in 2023, where peace of mind will be guaranteed by convenience to make us lazier. If you beg to differ, behold the brilliance Moen is whipping up with its smart irrigation system, you arguably wanted all this while.
The Smart Sprinkler Controller is an intelligent and novel way to control the lawn’s watering needs. It is provided in two 8-and 16-zone models, which provide adequate water to any yard size, precisely when the soil needs it. In that case, the sprinkler ensures you don’t waste water and helps save up to 30 percent on the water consumption of a typical home, but it is worthless standalone.
Only when paired with Moen’s Smart Wireless Soil Sensor, the sprinkler becomes the potent device its maker intends it to be. The wireless sensor goes down into the soil (and should be covered with the ground) and wirelessly syncs with the sprinkler: the two in tandem, keep track of the local weather, soil condition and other necessary factors to automatically schedule lawn watering.
The Sprinkler Controller connects with an existing irrigation system and allows Moen to tap into the smart home ecosystem even outside of the house. This is further facilitated with a dedicated Smart Water App that allows users to control the sprinkler system – to schedule or automate – using the smartphone. So, you can water the lawn from your phone irrespective of your geographic location.

All this lawn care convenience comes at a premium. To be available in February 2023, the Moen Smart Sprinkler will be available starting at $180 (price for 8-zone controller). The 16-zone variant will set you back $235. The soil sensor will retail at $70 apiece.
