With the boundaries between the kitchen and the living room getting blurred over the years, the once-specific appliances are getting more versatile. To that accord, the renowned Spanish multi-disciplinary designer Patricia Urquiola has transformed the refrigerator into functional furniture for the Italian manufacturer of built-in high-end appliances, Signature Kitchen Suite. Unveiled at the Salone del Mobile 2024, the Mantle by Urquiola is a modular cabinet that hides an undercounter convertible refrigerator. This free-standing storage unit is a fresh take on home appliances and how well they fit in our homes.
The Mantel is in line with Signature Kitchen Suite’s forward-thinking devices suitable for modern cooks. It has a unique, artistic look designed to hold the undercounter refrigerator in uncommon settings such as the living room or the bedroom. It not only tricks you into thinking that it is an unassuming cabinet or cabinet with seating but is also ideal to be incorporated into commercial spaces such as offices.
There are two versions of the Mantle. The sculptural version uses Cimento tiles, which is high-quality cladding material made from cement compounds obtained from natural components. The second version comes in natural or color-stained wood. Available in three design variants and multiple colors (vanilla, blue, burgundy, green, and sand), the Mantle undercounter convertible refrigerator provides different usage possibilities in versatile settings.
The unit comes with two drawers, with temperature and function variations according to your needs. The Extra Space drawers in the upper section allow you to meticulously arrange your ingredients and foods such as yogurt, cheese, and eggs.
It is perfect to stash in the bedroom for your midnight snack or place in the living room while you are watching your favorite game with your buddies to keep the beer chill. The Mantle is bound to change the way we previously defined living spaces and pave the way for more versatile kitchen appliances.
