This bespoke collection of wooden tableware and kitchenware is created by London-based artist Luke Hope. Following his passion for designing and building, he began working on wooden kitchenware in 2014 and gradually turned to all kinds of objects, both abstract and functional.
Each of his works, whether a spoon or a bowl, is exquisitely carved and shaped from a single piece of wood using a combination of traditional and modern carving tools and techniques. They are functional sculptures distinguished by the creator’s unique design approach.
Luke goes beyond the properties of wood – he tries to mimic the characteristics of other materials, like a fold in fabric or a crease in a piece of paper. The results are wonderful and make you want to appreciate his work.
From wooden spoons, spatulas, plates and bowls to chopsticks and vessels, he makes several kinds of items for the kitchen, for home decoration. He also creates sublime sculptures.
All of his creations focus on the interplay of light and line while highlighting the solid colors and materiality of woods such as sycamore, ancient bog oak, and dark walnut. “The dynamic interplay of material disposition significantly impacts the way each subtle line is crafted,” his website reads.
