San Francisco-based Heath Ceramics celebrated its 75th anniversary last year. Founded by Edith Heath in 1948, the design studio has revolutionized the art of ceramics and is renowned for its craftsmanship in handcrafted tableware and tiles. This time, the studio has taken a leap from decorating the spaces to now illuminating them with its new handcrafted ceramic lighting collection.
The collection is created by the designer and Heath Clay Studio Director, Tung Chiang. The designer’s childhood memory of catching fireflies has played a substantial role in crafting this collection where the lamps are designed to cast a warm, pleasing, dappled light. It comprises a set of table lamps and pendants, which includes Stack Table Lamp in wide and small sizes, available in Hickory and Barley or Oat and Penny Green, and the Bloom Pendant in Zinnia and Sunflower Gloss or Hickory and Barley.
As Tung Chiang says, “The effect reminds me of my childhood; catching fireflies in my hands, then loosening my fingers to let their light shine through.”
The Stack Table Lamp is characterized by elegant and conspicuous lines on the shade and the base. The base is finished in a glazed texture and punctuated with tiny holes from which the light passes through and casts a diffused, soft glow. The holes create a visual effect of fireflies dancing on the surface where the lamp is placed.
Perfect as a bedside lamp or as a moody addition in your living room, the ceramic table lamps in different colors and sizes are artistic and functional. The small Stack Table Lamp is priced at $500, whereas the wide Stack Table Lamp is priced at $650.

Next in the collection is the Bloom Pendant. The ceramic pendant lamp is an elegant and minimalistic light fixture with timeless qualities. The inspiration for its proportioned and glazed profile comes from the company’s own Bud vase. According to the designer, the lamp represent flowers that bloom at night. The Bloom Pendant with its relaxed glow can brighten up your dining or kitchen space, or turn any bland and boring living room into an inviting sojourn. They are priced at $500.
Each piece is hand-thrown in the Heath Clay Studio. The ceramic lighting collection infuses modern living spaces with new light and life in a subtle yet elegant manner as to uphold the legacy of the Heaths.
