In a world dominated by AirPods and Bluetooth speakers, it’s hard being a vinyl enthusiast. Gen Z will chaff at you for being old school and Boomers will take shots at you for not keeping up with the trend. Irrespective of what people say, the joy of crate digging, picking it home, putting it down on the platter, and lowering the tonearm is unmatchable. So, are turntables still popular? Indeed! And collaborations like Technics (brand name of hi-fi audio products owned by Panasonic Group) x Lamborghini make them even more relevant than ever.
Marking a new chapter in audio excellence, Technics has partnered with Lamborghini to unveil the SL-1200M7B turntable. “The SL-1200M7B is a special edition based on the SL-1200MK7/SL-1210MK7 DJ models from the SL-1200 turntable series, which have garnered widespread acclaim and popularity over the years,” Technics points in a press note.
The collaboration might scream desperate, and Technics may just be trying to crank up its sales, but for an audiophile like me, there is nothing more fascinating than witnessing a stylus dragging across the grove on the record. Add Lamborghini motifs to the equation and I am completely sold!
Adorned with Lambo stickers and branding, the 1200M7B turntable is available in three orange, green, and yellow colors. If you are a petrolhead like my colleague, you would instantly recognize that the color of the turntable draws inspiration from Lambo’s tonnes which include Arancio Apodis, Verde Shock, and Giallo Athon. The design also features a slipmat that is donned in the Lamborghini logo.
Beyond the striking aesthetics, the SL-1200M7B turntable features a coreless direct drive motor, ensuring stable rotation and formidable torque for flawless playback. The plinth houses a highly sensitive tonearm that captures every intricacy etched within the vinyl groove, delivering an unparalleled listening journey while letting you ride the soundwaves.

Speaking of soundwaves, this special-edition turntable comes with a picture disc record featuring the symphonic sounds of six distinct V12-powered Lamborghinis, specially captured for this collaboration. If you are not down by that, the two-layer platter also features a high-damping insulator, which is tailor-made for reducing vibration. Technics has incorporated a stylus illuminator with a long-life LED that shines and provides optimal visibility when played in dimly lit environments.
Slated a release in July, the SL-1200M7B will retail for $1600 offering enthusiasts a blend of aesthetics and automotive heritage.
