South Korea-based designer Jiyoun Kim graduated from Hong-Ik University in 2009, and now works on various projects focusing industrial design, brand design and architecture. Previously we featured his Squared hairdryer that deals with issues of handling messy cords in most of the electronic devices. This year in London Design Festival, he unveiled Lightning table lamp that draws inspiration from the moment when a lightning bolt strikes the ground during thunderstorms. Neck of this lamp is shaped like an electric spark, while above is a cloud structure made with glass, enlarged by blowing technique.
With Lightning Lamp, Kim tries to demonstrate the old Korean expression ‘Being struck by a thunder out of blue sky’ that describes people confronting unexpected catastrophic events. The lightning lamp expresses people’s desire to endure and overcome such events. In other words, it encompasses the message of overcoming challenges during a lifetime by changing the outlook. Its entire body is made of stainless steel, except the glass top.

The Lightning lamp looks like a dreamy late-night reading or nightstand lamp that’s perfect to illuminate your interior space just right. It comes in four different colors that match with different times: daytime, early morning, midnight, and sunset. This blown glass table lamp displays the natural richness of colors better than any other table lamps in the market.
