We are still one and a half months away from Goodwoof Barkitecture 2025, but architecture firms across the globe have already started teasing the respective models they plan to bring to the occasion. Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), a globally renowned architectural firm, recently dropped a dog bed dubbed Hover that the firm hails as a ‘retreat for pups’.
Hover, as its name suggests, appears to float effortlessly, offering a sleek and modern aesthetic that complements any home. But this dog bed is far more than just a pretty piece of furniture. The Hover was designed with a deep understanding of how dogs sit, sleep, and lounge. “Our Hover design is inspired by the principles of weightlessness, flexibility, and comfort,” state the makers.
While SOM has yet to disclose any further details regarding the project, based on pictures and information revealed in an Instagram post, the bed’s minimalist design features a lightweight frame with a hammock-like surface that gently cradles the dog, providing a sense of security while allowing for maximum relaxation. The Hover’s elevated structure gives it a floating appearance and ensures proper airflow, keeping pets cool and comfortable during rest.
Another aspect that separates Hover from traditional dog beds is SOM’s commitment to sustainability. “Crafted from sustainable and recycled materials, the structure achieves maximum strength with minimal material use,” SOM states. While one may assume that recycled materials will make it less aesthetically appealing, that’s not true. The Hover dog bed boasts a clean, modern look with a neutral color palette, evident in the green fabric in the image, which blends seamlessly into contemporary living spaces.

We cannot testify it at the time of writing, based on the pictures and the brand’s history of making durable products, we assume Hover’s sturdy yet lightweight frame can support dogs of various sizes while remaining easy to move or store.
Although Goodwood Barkitecture is a show known to showcase dog kennels or dog houses, the inclusion of the Hover dog bed seems like a nice change in approach to what can be exhibited at the show. For dog owners looking to pamper their pups with a bed that’s as stylish as it is comfortable, Hover should be on their checklist once it goes up for auction on Bonhams.
