Many people dream of travelling but only a few dare to leave the comforts of home behind and walk the road less traveled to explore the world. This amazing story of Lore and Jonas of ‘Off The Beaten Path’, who left their routine life and started fresh in 2020, will inspire you to travel. The couple not just walked the less traveled road but drove on it when they transformed a 2007 French school bus into a luxurious hotel on wheels. This bus conversion is a fully equipped hotel, decked with all the amenities, tailored to the needs of up to seven guests who stay with them and travel as a group.
Touring around Europe with people who become family in no time, the bus has enough space for nine people to travel in full comfort, including the two hosts. The bus has four solar panels on roof and measures 39 feet long, 8 feet wide, and 11 feet high. But what catches the attention is the pop-up roof tent that becomes a sleeping space for two. Not sure of that, but there might be some storage accessible on the exterior of the bus.
The bus hotel’s interior boasts 322 square feet of living space. There are two entryways, you can walk in from the main door at the center, or you can take the door from the driver’s side. First thing is the driver’s cabin which has not been changed, but rest of the interior is entirely refurbished.
Leading from the driver’s cabin is a seating area that doubles as dining space. It is an ideal space with four seats and seatbelts, and a sizeable table in the middle. Further into the space, you will find woodwork, wood stove, skylight, and overhead wooden cabinets adding a nostalgic feeling of being at home.
The kitchen of the bus hotel is tailored to fit the cooking needs of the owners and to prepare a good meal for their guests. It is galley style with countertops on both side and storage-efficient with cabinets, and a sink, and a long shelf. The appliances include an oven, stove, a refrigerator, and a blender. It also features wooden plant holder, plants, books stacked in one corner, and warm tones throughout to make it more homely.
This hotel on wheels has a fully equipped bathroom and follows the same color patterns as rest of the space. Draped in earthy tones, it has a shower, an incinerating toilet, a sink, and lot of storage space for keeping towels and other bathroom essentials. The bus has a 450-liter water tank so you can enjoy a hot shower that will give a refreshing bathing experience.

Enclosed by a sliding door, the snuggest part of the bus features the bedrooms at the rear. There are five bunk beds for the guests, enclosed with curtains so that everyone can have some privacy. At the extreme end is the coziest master bedroom with double bed for two, with some storage option. It is enclosed with a tiny sliding door. With the charging ports, reading lights, and enough storage in each bunk, they get even better as you can read, write, and watch movies at your comfort. The roof tent is the best sleeping spot for couples.
The couple Lore and Jonas have done a splendid job turning this vehicle into a mobile hotel. They do tailor-made tours or you can rent the bus for wedding purposes, festivals, for an entire family, or for a group of friends, the choices are plenty. So grab six of your friends and ravel with ‘Off The Beaten Path’ to enjoy the warm bonfires, trails and hiking, and exploring the picturesque landscapes of Norway, Iceland, Spain and more.
