I sit at a desk for eight to ten hours every day. This routine is the bane of my existence, or at least for my neck and back. Sitting all day, hunched over a keyboard and poring over a computer screen is not healthy. Thankfully, the invention of sit-to-stand office tables brings a sense of respite to people like me, who have found their calling in the demanding professional world.
Most standing or height-adjustable desks come with two-leg bases housing a powerful system to control the table’s height, ultimately focusing on function over form. I find them lacking the visual appeal fit for a modern workplace and sometimes, the stability too. Striving to change this scenario, Herman Miller has created a breakthrough piece of furniture called Spout, a sit-to-stand table poised on a sophisticated four-legged design for quiet stability. Now this is an office desk I covet.
Spout sit-to-stand table combines ergonomic functionality with an innovative design. It appears like any standard office furniture at first glance, hiding the four in-line motor actuators that quietly allow the height adjustable feature with a lift capacity of up to 400 lbs.
Truthfully, I like the design. It is sleek, sophisticated, and works well with office settings. The biggest concern of my workspace is the mess of wires that just kills my productivity. To wit, Spout elevates the experience with under-surface cable management, magnetic cable clips, and an optional cable tray to keep the wires organized and your space neat.
Interestingly, this desk is the first design to include the Ello Power Access Solutions, a new family of DC power access solutions from Herman Miller. To that accord, HM added Ello Micro to Spout, integrating power access into the tabletop surface for fast charging of your suite of gadgets. It includes two USB-C ports with a maximum power output of 100W per port.

Spout sit-to-stand table comes in three size variations ranging between 23×46 inches and 35×70 inches. These configurations cater to an array of office needs from being a workspace to an individual or a team in an open floor plan layout – serving as a collaboration space, or becoming a focused nook for various purposes.
Regardless of your needs, I’d say that Spout has something for everyone. The elegant lines of the base, efficient cable management, and the smooth transition from a sitting table to a standing desk take care of almost everything you look for in a modern office desk. The desk also has accessories like a bag hook and an integrated storage drawer with in-drawer device charging.
The $2,300 desk comes in several color and finish options, allowing you to create the desired visual theme. Spout doesn’t just fit a modern office environment but can be a beautiful addition to any home setting as well. I’m looking forward to making Spout a part of my office space with its elegant lines and premium materials. I might get one for my home, too!
