Helinox, the South Korean brand well known for making lightweight camping equipment, has launched a new, improved version of its award-winning Chair One, introduced first in 2012. Named Chair One (re), the new model features a higher seat and upgraded (re)Tension Design. The new design improvements make sitting and standing easier and redistribute the user’s weight around the frame for a more comfortable sitting experience.
The frame is also 30 percent higher than the original. The chair height is 28 inches, and the width is 22.5 inches. The user sits 15 inches above the ground. The chair packs into a 15.5 x 5.5 x 4.5 inches full zip case with a daisy chain and webbing handle. The packed weight of the chair is 2.46 lbs, which is slightly heavier than the earlier model, which weighed 2 lbs 2 oz.
The architecture of the original chair is re-interpreted with new dual-tension technology, dubbed (re)Tension Design. In this approach, a second tension line is added within the perimeter of the chair that uniquely redistributes weight for enhanced comfort and stability.
The Chair One (re) frame is crafted from a proprietary DAC aluminum alloy, recycled 300D polyester, and mesh paneling for ventilation. With redesigned nylon resin hubs and wider-diameter poles, the structure is more durable and can hold up to 320 lbs (145 kg). Meanwhile, the TPU-molded pockets also make assembly of the chair easier with smooth fitting.

The frame of the chair is crafted from alloy discs recycled from discarded aluminum shavings to add some eco-friendly flair. A side pocket has also been integrated into the design for user convenience. After the high-quality materials that Helinox uses, it is the five-year warranty that entices a number of people and it is still available on the new chair, which signals the company has assurance of its build quality.
There are seven color choices for the Chair One (re), and it is listed for a price of about $120. You can also go for a high-back version for $150, available from the official website.
