For those who are unaware, WoodGrainGirls hosts the IG Builders Challenge every so often on Instagram. For the IGBC3 challenge, one plan is released on a particular date and the participants have three weeks to complete the build. This year the plan was created by Ana White, and she was one of the main judges as well.
There were many participants who created many functional and practical designs. But one interesting design is the convertible outdoor bench/coffee table by Instagram user Shawn [@industrial_vibe]. This amazing convertible furniture was 2nd runner up in the challenge, where there were over 130 other builds.
Even you can build this handmade outdoor bench-cum-coffee table. For this, you need to attach the top middle brace and the bottom middle brace to the side using a Kreg Jig K4 Pocket Hole System. After that side arms are attached on both top and bottom ends. Now attach two bench seat supports to the top bench.
Then assemble bottom half of the bench by attaching the top middle brace (41-inch) and the bottom middle (41-inch) brace to the side (16 1/2-inch) using a Kreg Jig K4 Pocket Hole System on a 1 1/2-inch setting. Even attach side arms to the bottom of the bench. There should be a 1/4-inch spacing in between boards to allow easy conversion of the bench to a coffee table.
The resulting piece is absolutely stunning and allows you to use the furniture as per your changing needs. This piece of furniture is ideal for both indoor and outdoor use. Moreover, it gives the minimalist yet elegant touch to any area where it’s kept.
If you want to create this double duty furniture for your home, you need to follow the step-by-step instructions given on Handmade-Haven.
