Italian design house GUBI will be making a splash at Euroluce, the biennial lighting exhibition at the Milan furniture fair, with its newest designs. One of their new releases is a portable lamp by Space Copenhagen – the latest addition to their Seine lighting collection – that evokes the shimmer and motion of a gently flowing river. The Seine portable lamp by GUBI is designed to let users enjoy a mood-setting play of light in any space, even outdoors.
By making the lamp design portable, Space Copenhagen has created a modern lantern, taking portable lighting to a new level of elegance and craftsmanship. Seine lamp draws on the layering and blurring effects of glass to practically illuminate spaces while creating a dreamy and reflective atmosphere.
Like other stationary lamps from the collection, the Seine lamp’s defining feature is a shade in patterned mouth-blown glass – a modest, modernist design with vintage references. The clover-like, dome-shaped lamp is created by blowing the glass into a mold, allowing it to set into its distinctive groove, evoking the shimmer and motion of a gently flowing river. It remains a beautiful object even when switched off.
Affixed to the base by four metal arms, the glass lampshade has a distinctive depth thanks to its transparent exterior and the sandblasted inner surface. This, combined with a digitally created surface pattern and a frosted-glass diffuser that houses the bulb, gives the lamp’s light a soft, textured, and poetic quality. There is a touch-activated three-stage dimmer on the base that allows the user to adjust the light level as per the atmosphere.

The lamp comes with a docking plate, fitted with a steel weight ring and powered by a USB-C port to fully charge the Seine portable lamp in around eight hours. On a single charge, the lamp can run from 7-50 hours, depending on the chosen dimmer setting.
Intended for outdoor use, the Seine portable lamp is splash-proof and resistant to sand and soil. It can be purchased for $499 from the official website.
