Nearly four years ago at Salone del Mobile, a Finnish design studio named Made by Choice partnered with the renowned artist Matthew Day Jackson to exhibit the Kolho furniture series. The collection comprised a series of tables and chairs formed of right angles and serpentine forms. The Halikko-based studio and the American-based artist have now decided to have some new additions to the Kolho family and the result is GLITS Rainbow Lounge, a beautiful chair with a rainbow-colored serpentine frame.
With Pride Month being celebrated across the globe, the GLITS Rainbow Lounge chair stands to empower the TGBLQIA+ community and support them in their endeavor. Championing human rights and celebrating diversity, the chair is a reminder that how design has the power to inspire, uplift, and transform lives.
Made with a custom-painted plywood technique, the chair features a frame and shell. The shell offers a flat surface for the user to sit on, while the frame goes all the way down to become the limbs of the furniture.

“Jackson and Made by Choice created a unique rainbow plywood material for this chair, which they paired with a custom Formica laminate that Jackson developed in Kolho. The GLITS Rainbow Lounge Chair is made from individually dyed layers of ply that are laminated into a block. It is proprietary to the GLITS Rainbow Lounge Chair and the Kolho line,” mentions the studio.
The artist was keenly interested in rainbow iconography and incorporated the particular motif into the furniture to showcase his support to the TGBLQIA+ community. In a bid to further support the community, the net proceeds from the first 20 GLITS Rainbow Lounges sold will be donated to the nonprofit GLITS, an organization that works for the upliftment of the marginalized community. The chair will be available for preorder at Pace Gallery.
