September is ending and Spooktober is about to begin. Everyone is excited and getting ready for Halloween with their different takes on decorations for the fall festivity. But the best and much-awaited aspect of Halloween is the unique outdoor decoration displays. While some people are satisfied with store-bought items, artistic souls spend time and effort to create elaborate decorations. A case in point is Isaac Alexander – a US Army veteran and a DIY fanatic – who has taken over the command of creating the most buzz-worthy Halloween props.
Earlier this month, he created a roof-breaking giant skeleton display on the roof of his house and it is brilliant. He starts with a solid base of black-painted plywood with holes in it, big enough for a rope to pass through. To keep the board secured on the roof, he cut another plywood to be placed on the other side of the roof for counterbalance.
Alexander places the Costco ground-breaker skeleton on the board and secures it with an expanding foam. He advises the viewer’s to use either paint or fake shingles to cover up the foaming. The Halloween display is completed by adjusting its head and arms in a way that makes it look like breaking through the roof. For a realistic touch, inexpensive fake shingles are used around the prop to give that demolishing effect. Finally, an eyelet hook is attached to the back of the skull and the platform to keep the skeleton from falling off.
Since the Costco skeleton is designed for outdoor Halloween decoration, the prop can withstand natural elements without any damage. Alexander even shows it standing through rain and storm after he mounted it on the roof.
He also posted a reel of this giant skeleton display on his Instagram handle, directing curious souls to his YouTube tutorial video of the process. Unsurprisingly, the reel went viral with over 2 million views on Instagram and half a million on YouTube.

One of his YouTube subscribers commented, ”Awesome! I always wondered the best way to mount a prop to the roof. The addition of him breaking through the shingles is a great touch. Thanks for another great video!”
