Interior design brand Dam, centres its craft on building products that tell stories and display its love for Portugal. Celebrating 10 years of excellence in the craft industry, Dam showcases its Portuguese roots and origins again with its latest creation the GAGO Rocking Chair.
Dam honors the first aerial crossing of the South Atlantic through its rocking chair realized in 1922 by pilot Sacadura Cabral and navigator Gago Coutinho. This wooden chair is largely inspired by the round shape of an aviator helmet while its arms follow the curves of the wings of a seaplane.
The use of natural cork offers softness and its antibacterial properties make it the right choice for crafting the chair’s external make. Skilled craftsmanship using eco-friendly practices has been put into practice for this chair design to accentuate your home decor.
The upholstery (on seat and back) rests on the solid wooden frame and brings the rocking chair to life with a combination of neutral and lively colors. Burel fabric laces the interior of the seat which is made from wool.

The chair’s base rocks on two rockers-specified in ash, oak, or walnut with clear varnish- giving the user an impression of being on a perfect adventure. However, the seat fabric is available in five rich colors- Deep Blue, Fond Orange, Serene Beige, Luxury Red and Sleepy Green.
An interesting detail calls for attention at the back of each creation. An inscription that reads ‘1922, 8383 km’ denoting the year and distance of the first aerial journey is put on each chair by the designer. A price request can be made by leaving a query on their website in case you wish to bring home the GAGO Rocking Chair.
