There is a huge fanbase for shapeshifting furniture and Expandy is one great addition to this list. It is a 3-in-1 couch that has been designed by Daniel Chiriac, a Montreal-based mechanical engineer. Daniel came up with the idea of Expandy after he got tired of using a conventional sofa that he had in his condo. He wanted to design a couch that could change shapes to accommodate more people and serve more functions when needed. So here is Expandy, an armchair that can convert into a love seat and then into a three-seater sofa.
Expandy gets its name from the fact that it can be expanded in width to create three different kinds of furniture from one unit. As an armchair, it is comfortable and ideal for one person to sit and relax. When required, it can be pulled from the right end to form a love chair, as Daniel likes to call it, creating space for two people. But what if you need more seating? Worry not, you can pull the Expandy from its left to transform it into a full-sized sofa.

The best thing about this piece of furniture is that it comes in a box. There is no need for assembly as it is ready for use when it arrives on your doorstep. Expandy is sturdy but lightweight; it can be easily moved by a person and takes up just one-third of the space of a conventional sofa unless you need to expand it for more seating.
Expandy is upholstered using premium-grade fabric which gives it a stylish look. The seats, cushions, and backrests of the love seat and sofa can be found hidden from sight in the storage area at the front and on the right arm side of the chair.
Daniel informs that he has a market-ready model that will enter production soon in collaboration with one of the largest furniture manufacturers in Europe. There is however no mention of how expensive the convertible sofa will be, but the idea is definitely investible.
