Halloween month has finally arrived and we are excited. To get into the spirit, we decided to whip a quick and easy DIY Haunted Village setup for our Halloween decorations. It is the most lowkey setup you’ll ever see and it is as laidback as making a delicious batch of pancakes (which for some may seem like a daunting task but trust yourself and give it a go). This DIY haunted village setup is perfect as a tabletop decoration and will put you in the holiday spirit right away. So what you are waiting for? Read on to learn how to make a haunted village for your Halloween decorations.
Materials Needed:
- A wooden slab
- Paper
- Gravel
- Acrylic colors
- Mini Pumpkins (or air-dry clay to make some)
- Aluminum Foil
- Toothpicks
- Hot glue gun
- Foraged moss
How to Make Haunted Village Setup
Prepare the Props
- First, you need to make tiny houses for your haunted village. You can either use a stencil or patterns available online. You can also choose to go freehand
- If you are going freehand, like I have done, here is how to go about it.
- Cut a few rectangles and squares from paper and join them to get the basic structure for houses
- Then cut out window squares and tape colored plastic pieces toward the inner side
- Fold a piece of paper and place it on the roof to see if it fits, make necessary adjustments, and glue the roof
- Then cut tiny strips of paper and make vertical incisions at the one-centimeter gap, leaving it attached at the top
- Glue these strips on the roof to mimic shingles
- Make as many houses as you need and paint them in a choice of color
- Next, make trees for our haunted village. Start by rolling crumpled strips of aluminum foil and mimic branches
- Add these branches of different shapes and sizes onto a stem that is made out of a toothpick rolled inside more foil
- Then either spray paint the trees or hand paint them in black and brown. You can leave them bare or add foliage. I glued cotton on the trees sprayed it black and dabbed it with green
Set the Props
- Next, take the wooden slab, tape a piece of paper on it, and paint the paper gray
- Arrange where your houses, trees, graveyard, and walkways will go, and draw a path using white paint to mimic cobblestones
- Then put your houses in place, and glue trees around them, while leaving some space for a tiny graveyard on one corner
- To make the graveyard, make some tombstones from paper, paint them gray, and write inscriptions on them
- Glue tombstones sporadically, arrange forage moss around them with some gravel and trees
- Arrange bigger gravel around the drawn pathway and add some tiny pumpkins for a pop of color
Put tealights inside the houses and your haunted village setup is ready to adorn your holiday decorations. Happy Halloween!
