Contemporary architecture is marked by the ever-changing tastes and demands of the present and structures called geodomes or geodesic domes are a living example of that evolution. Geodomes are self-supporting, hemispherical structures made of interlocking triangles or hexagons that form a stable half-sphere. The Mini Dome considered the first pentakis dodecahedron house is a proud member of this architectural category. Built by Joshua Tulberg of Dodeca Domes, the Mini Dome is currently available as a vacation rental in Portland, Oregon.
It is smartly designed to maximize space and is available for short-term rent on Airbnb for $581 per night. Measuring 23.2 feet long, 22 feet wide, and 20 feet high, the petite geodesic dome can be an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) or a guest house in your backyard. Notably, the home will be available in kit form, whereas construction drawings and plans will be up for sale for $15,000 in 2025.
Mini Dome has a double wall construction and its assembly is done with hub and strut. It is slightly raised on a pier and beam foundation to minimize the effect on the surrounding environment. Furthermore, it is well-insulated, environmentally friendly, waterproof, and ventilated for optimal temperature.
With 308 square feet of interior space, the Mini Dome features an open layout. The interior is enriched by triangular windows that fill it with natural light. It includes a kitchen, a bathroom, a living space, and a mezzanine, making the space more utilitarian and habitable.
Its front door opens into a spacious living area with a sofa bed and ottoman, and two side tables with storage. There is a wall-mounted TV you can watch while lounging on a sofa bed.

Further ahead is a dining table for two people. The kitchen is nicely styled with a countertop, a sink, and ample cabinetry and drawers. There are appliances such as a microwave, a fridge-freezer combo, a toaster, and a coffee maker. A bathroom is adjacent to the kitchen and has a shower, a vanity sink with minimal storage, and a toilet.
You take space-efficient spiral stairs from the living area and access the quiet and comfy mezzanine. The room accommodates a queen-size bed and a side table with a lamp. It is also well-lit, protected with hand railings, and big enough for you to stand upright.
