Lee and Sarah, a UK-based couple had a deep passion and love for van life, which resulted into this modern and well designed van conversion. The couple became interested in van life in 2017 after watching several YouTube videos showcasing a simpler and on-the-road lifestyle.
They had bought a short wheelbase Vauxhall Vivaro in 2019 and converted it into their dream home on wheels, they call the Vambo. Like many van homes, this one also sports a white exterior. There is a retractable awning to provide shade and also create some space outdoors. The van’s stepwell is covered with a piece of wood that has been stained and distressed for a cool look on the entrance.
Just next to the main door is a storage unit right behind the driver’s seat that functions as an extra place to prepare, cook and store food. There is a hinged lid that hides a small camping stove underneath. A cut-out at the bottom of this unit can be used for blankets, and also the pet food bowls of Tommy and Arthur – the couple’s two adorable cats.
In addition, there is an adjustable table that creates a small dining or workspace for the couple when needed. There are two upholstered seats for sitting at the table. The first upholstered seat behind the front passenger seat works as storage space for the cats’ litter box. The other one that stores under the platform bed can also be used as a place to store a portable toilet but the couple uses it just for storage. The couple uses a collapsible bivvy as an ultra-slim toilet instead.
One side of the van has a multipurpose counter that holds the kitchen sink and some storage. The sink is made out of a lovely copper vessel and the faucet out of copper piping. The couple has judiciously chosen a foot-operated pump rather than an electric pump system being better for water conservation.

The couple’s bed features a pull out design that can be expanded for creating a wider sleeping space. There is also a simple shower system made of a pump sprayer and a wooden deck tile. It is stored in the storage space underneath the platform bed. It also stores a 140 amp-hour battery, a diesel heater, and other camping gear.
The couple has travelled to many places with their cats in Vambo. They are now working on converting a Citroen Relay with a high top and a longer wheelbase. You can see the complete van conversion by Lee and Sarah in the video below:
